10 Worst Reasons to Skip Your Workout

We've all been there. Sometimes, it's just hard motivate yourself to lace up. I thought it might be fun, and a bit motivational, to make light of the situation. So, I recruited some internet puppies to help me share some of the worst (and most common) excuses for skipping a workout.

1. It's raining outside or it's too hot/cold outside

Grab your umbrella, and head to the gym. If you absolutely hate the treadmill, swap your cardio day with a weight training day that week. Training indoors is always an option if weather is not on your side.

2. I'm too tired

You'd be surprised how much more energy you have once you step out the door. And your workout will improve your overall energy levels.

3. I don't have anything to wear

Who cares what you're wearing?? I mean... as long as you're not naked. The gym is not a fashion show. Nobody cares if you are decked out in Lululemon and nobody cares if you are double wearing those shorts. If they do, they're at the gym for the wrong reasons.

4. I ate really well today

Yes, what you eat is extremely important when it comes to being fit and healthy. But eating kale all day isn't going to improve your cardiovascular strength or increase your muscle mass.

5. I worked out yesterday

Awesome! Stick to your plan and to your workouts. If you're supposed to go today, go.

6. I did [some form of activity that does not count as a workout -- shopping, for instance] today

Doesn't count.

7. So and so invited me to [insert social activity]

Once in a lifetime opportunity? You should go. Just do your workout in the morning! ;)

8. I don't have time

This is probably the most common excuse. For new moms, I totally understand. And honestly, if you're a new mom, you should probably prioritize sleep over working out if it comes to that. But try to squeeze in some squats and other body-weight exercises when you can. For the rest of us, you do have time. Turn off the Netflix and go.

9. I have an imaginary injury

Do you play men's soccer? If not, rub some dirt on it and move on.  If you have a non-imaginary injury, go to the doctor and wait for their clearance to continue with your workout routine.

10. The gym is too crowded

Try going at an off-peak time. Matt and I have found that if we go right when the gym opens, we have the gym basically to ourselves and could superset our entire workout if we wanted to.
