I love this little hike. It's easy & shaded for a summer stroll and not too steep/dangerous for a winter outing. We've done this hike twice now. Once the day after Christmas, and once last week. I had a friend in town visiting and we had done a 2hr bike ride the day before, so I just didn't want to do Sanitas or Royal Arch. Also, I'm 22 weeks pregnant and it was 95 degrees outside.

This hike is the perfect chill stroll along a little stream. It is probably the only local hike (aside from running trails) that I'd take my parents on when they come in town. Boulder doesn't have many shaded hikes or low-gain hikes, which makes this one more important.

When my parents come, I'd probably turn around after we sat and looked at the view from the top of the waterfall, rather than continue on to the reservoir. The path to the reservoir is where the elevation gain is. The beginning section is just a nature walk. I also wouldn't continue to the reservoir in the winter, especially if you don't have micro spikes and trekking poles. We wore our spikes for our post-Christmas hike.

Something really cool about our winter hike on this trail was that the waterfall was completely frozen solid to where I could stand on top of it.

Boulderites - I'd highly recommend this one for when you have visitors in town. It's just off Magnolia Road on the way to Nederland.
