Okay. I want to start this post off by saying this -- I am not a celebrity chaser. You won't find me waiting in line for an autograph/photo with any movie star. There are only a handful of people that I would wait in line for two hours to meet (all fitness people), and of course, Karena and Katrina from Tone It Up definitely make that cut!
I've been a nutrition plan member since 2012. These girls really inspired me and kicked my butt into action when all I cared about was being skinny. They helped me to shift my focus and become motivated to eat real, clean foods and lift weights.
What's special about their plan? It teaches you how to make your own decisions. A lot of nutrition plans provide you with 6 weeks of meal planning where they tell you what to buy and eat every day in that time frame. Sometimes, when you finish such a program, it can be hard to come up with ideas on your own. Tone It Up teaches you the basics of nutrition, and why you should eat certain things at certain times of the day. Also, when you sign up, you get a lifetime membership to any updates that are made -- which it seems like they send out an update more than once a year!
And the Tone It Up community is amazing. When I lived in Houston, I met up with Tone It Up girls on a regular basis and have started to do so in the city as well. I've never met a TIU girl that I didn't like. Everyone is so incredibly sweet.
Anyways... they came to NYC this week to launch their new line of Oakley sunglasses. It was so funny to me that they were offering the option to cut in the line to meet K&K if you purchased a pair of glasses, and hardly anyone was taking Oakley up on that offer. Let's be real, guys. Nobody was there for Oakley. We care about K&K. That's it.
Thank goodness that my college roomie, Christy, loves K&K too (and lives in the city), because this line was LONG! I was not expecting this many people right at the start time. So we stood in line, met some nice people, and got rained on a little bit.
Oakley had bouncer-type guys at the front allowing people inside the building only when other girls exited. I think this was why the line took so long (girls were just chillin inside drinking champagne). Maybe they didn't know the 1-in-1-out policy...let's give them the benefit of the doubt.
We finally got inside around 8:00 (we got in line at 6:00). The Oakley store isn't especially big, but they organized the velvet rope well to encourage a good flow for people to follow.
I was incredibly impressed that K&K were not only taking pictures and signing autographs, but they were taking time to meet every girl and even chat for a minute. I imagine they were exhausted by this point (2 hours straight of taking photos with people), but they didn't show it. Props to y'all.
Taryn Manning from Orange in the New Black was DJing (fun little surprise). And while you waited in line, you were allowed to grab some Perfect Fit protein snacks and champagne! It really was an efficient, but cute celebration of their product launch. Good job, girls! Way to throw a good party!
And obviously, the best part of the night was getting to thank K&K personally for the work they have put into Tone It Up.
**Side note: K&K are really tall. Way taller than I expected haha.
Thanks for inspiring girls all over the world not only to eat veggies and workout, but also to love their bodies, be optimistic, and invest in girl friends. Y'all are the coolest celebrities in my book!
