Elite Female Runners Who Live In the Boulder Area

Boulder has been called the running "Mecca" of the West. And not without reason. The challenging altitude, the healthy-minded culture, the great climate, and the 300+ days of sun make it a dream home for runners. Pretty much everyone here is passionate about running.

I geeked out the other day when I saw that Neely Spence Gracey got coffee at the shop across the street from my apartment this week. Naturally, I spiraled into researching women doing awesome things in my new town.

There are many more than these, but here are some of my favorite ladies kicking butt in Boulder:

Kara Goucher

Two-time Olympian; 10k world championships bronze medalist; fastest American woman half-marathoner

Neely Spence Gracey

First American to cross the finish line in 2:35:00 for ninth overall at the Boston Marathon, also on the cover of Runner's World this past month.

Amanda Basham

Nike Trail Team Runner and coach. First place female USATF 50 Mile Trail Championships, Cayuga Trails 50 in 2015

Darcy Piceu

Ultramarathonner who won the Hardrock 100 two years in a row. Took top honors at 3 out of the 4 races in the Rocky Mountain Grand Slam of ultrarunning.

Ashley Erba

The next generation of elite runners (19 years old). First place finishes at Moab's Red Hot 55K and Power of Four 50K.
