Trust me, I'm no stranger to busyness. I'm a full-time marketing professional launching an online personal training business, trying to continue becoming more and more educated in the health and fitness field, doing my best to help my clients achieve their goals, being a wife, taking care of a dog, and navigating this crazy city. I get overwhelmed sometimes, not gonna lie.
Luckily, I've found that with a little bit of extra planning, effort, and self control, I can stick to my macronutrient intake even on the craziest days.
Here are my best tips:
1. Plan Ahead
If you know you have a bunch of appointments tomorrow, pack/prep as much food as you can today! If your lunch is already packed and ready to go, you won't have to worry about whether or not it's healthy and you won't have to assess restaurant menus when you're already stressed. If you have a lunch meeting, look at the menu ahead of time and plan what you're going to choose. That way, you'll know how to plan your macros AND you won't be swayed to make a poor decision when everyone else orders pasta.
2. Keep Healthy Snacks Available
What are your favorite healthy snacks? Have those on hand. When Matt and I travel, I try to make sure that we have Quest bars and bananas to snack on. They don't need to be refrigerated and they are so satisfyingly yummy. I can just have them in my purse for when we need them. In the summer, I'm also a fan of snacking on raw cucumber -- I know, that's kind of weird. But they're so low in calories and really refreshing on hot days.
3. Bring Your Water With You
I have two Nalgene bottles that I use when I'm out and about (not at the same time). If I'm planning to be sitting in one place for a while, I'll bring my larger Nalgene. If I'm planning to have to walk around a lot, I'll bring my smaller one. Stay hydrated even when you're out and about!
4. Don't Skip Meals
This is so important. Sometimes, busyness makes us lose track of time and forget to eat. Set reminders on your phone if you need to. Block out time on your schedule. Don't skip meals, not even breakfast. You don't have to eat something fancy, just something nutritious. If you stick to regular meal times, you won't end up starving at the end of the day and binging on bad food.
5. Stick to Your Macros
Again, with proper planning, you can totally stick to your macros on a busy day. Know what you're going to eat and when you're going to eat it. Then, you don't have to stress about food. It can be one worry crossed off of our list.
Hope this is helpful! You absolutely can stay healthy, even on the most hectic of days. But remember, if you do slip up, one day won't ruin all of your progress. Do the best you can and start again the next day.
