MNB Challenge - Recap Week 1

This week, I joined the #sweatpink community and Lorna Jane for the three-week Move Nourish Believe blogger challenge to stay on track and motivate other bloggers! Each week focuses on a different area of health: move (exercise), nourish (clean eating), and believe (positive self talk). The challenge winner gets $1,000 shopping spree at Lorna Jane! What?!?!? Of course I had to give it a go! Each week day, I did a challenge check-in on my Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Week 1 was the "Move" portion:

Day 1: Sweat It Out! - For the first day of the challenge, we all shared our favorite way to sweat. Now while I do love yoga, I have to say that my favorite way to sweat is lifting weights. It's relaxing for me AND it gives me incredible results! I used to be the kind of girl who just wanted to be skinny (and I was a long distance runner because of that). My goals have since changed. I want muscle! And I don't run off my hard-earned muscle with steady state cardio.

If you've never tried lifting heavy because you're worried about looking like a man, I highly suggest that you give it a try. For the majority of women, we would have to try SO hard to look like that -- and probably have to take supplements. Just try it, okay? For me?

Day 2: Change It Up! - Tuesday, MNB asked us to try a new workout from their site. I searched through some options and decided to try out Casey's CrossFit Workout. I wanted something that would make me sweat and get my blood pumping, and this workout definitely surpassed my expectations for that.

I did the workout in my apartment. We have one of those door frame pull-up bar things, so I was able to use that. I had to take many short breaks throughout this workout -- I mean... who can do 15 pull-ups in a row?? But I completed two rounds of this workout. Mind you, I did this immediately after teaching a 45-minute yoga class.

Day 3: Let's Get Planking! - Wednesday, the challenge was to do 5 total minutes of plank throughout the day. I did all 5 minutes at work (note the dry erase board, real clothes, and pumps in the photo below). I did 1 minute in a right plank, 1 min left, and then 3 forearm planks. Cool stuff.

Day 4: Buddy Up! - MNB suggested that we buddy up on Thursday for our workout, but this was no sort of challenge for me. My husband and I workout together almost every day. It's seriously the best. He pushes me to lift heavier and to reach my goals. We try new active things together (like rock climbing and acro yoga). I'm so happy to have him.

Day 5: Fave Friday! - Friday, we were asked to list out five of our fitness favorites (no specific category). My list is pretty random, but here it is:

  1. Favorite yoga pose to practice: handstand
  2. Favorite muscle to workout: triceps
  3. Favorite workout hairstyle: Katniss-style french braid
  4. Favorite trainers: Karena and Katrina from Tone It Up
  5. Favorite yoga teacher: Kathryn Budig
