Trying to Eat Less Meat

If you've been following SSE for a while, you may already know that for most of my life, I was meat-free. I became a vegetarian at the ripe age of 8 and then went full vegan at 18. It wasn't until 2013 that I started to incorporate meat back into my diet. 

For the past two years, I've been eating poultry, fish, dairy, and eggs. And while there's nothing healthfully wrong with any of those things, I just frankly am not a huge fan of eating meat. I'm not sure I was just getting burned out of grilled chicken everyday or if I have been heavily influenced by the Rich Roll podcast that I've been listening to during my long runs -- but the other day, I started to think about eating less meat. 

I'm doing an experiment right now to see if I can still get at least 115g of protein each day without meat and without completely overdoing it on carbs. 

When it comes to diet, I'm a big fan of the "Do What Works Best for You and Your Body" ideal. While I think there are a lot of general principles that apply to all (fast food is not healthy), I don't think there is a perfect diet that works best for everyone. At 25, I'm still figuring out what that means for me. And that may continually change based on my lifestyle and my current workout regime. 

With half marathon training, I've been eating much more carbs than I normally would. And if I were trying to gain more muscle (which I will be doing after the half), I'll want to up my protein intake. 

I'm just doing a little bit of trial and error.
